The Environment and Climate Change Department , Govt. of Maharashtra has
taken up a holistic initiative, Majhi Vasundhara (My Earth ), to make citizen aware of the
impacts of climate change and environmental issues and to encourage them to make a conscious
effort towards the improvement of the environment.
This initiative will also support the state in the implementation of climate change mitigation
and adaptation measures.
It is a unique integrated first-ever exercise in India by the department, focusing on all five
elements of nature i.e. “Panchamahabhuta” comprises Bhumi (Earth), Jala (Water), Vayu (Air),
Agni (Energy), Akash (Enhancement) to ensure sustainable development for the state.

Majhi Vasundhara focuses on restoring the five elements of nature through six
initiatives. These initiatives by the Environment and Climate Change Department , Govt. of
Maharashtra, target to engage stakeholders from different sectors and age groups to sensitize
them about sustainable development and climate change.
Majhi Vasundhara focuses on identifying potential action points for the betterment of the environment for the local bodies in Maharashtra (Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan). It also aims to connect with every citizen at the individual level (#Epledge). It targets to connect with government institutions (Majhi Vasundhara Summit) , local and global corporate entities (Majhi Vasundhara Corporates), and brings all national and international non-profit organizations (Majhi Vasundhara Non-profit) under one umbrella to pioneer change. Not only that, but Majhi Vasundhara also taken up the initiative to inculcate green values in future generations and planned to develop a curriculum for the school students in Maharashtra (Majhi Vasundhara Curriculum). The curriculum will be introduced by the Department of Education and Sports, Government of Maharashtra, in the next academic year.

MAJHI VASUNDHARA- CURRICULUM
The Department of Environment and Climate Change, Govt. of Maharashtra under the Majhi Vasundhara with UNICEF and partners is taking up a unique initiative to inculcate the green values in children through education named Majhi Vasundhara Curriculum.
▪ The curriculum will be developed focusing on Climate
Action Education for the children in Maharashtra.
▪ The curriculum will be age disaggregated, supported by
pedagogy and cognitive skills focusing on practical learning methods
representing both Urban and Rural Maharashtra.
▪ The curriculum will be finalized by March 2021 and will
be handed over to the School Education & Sports
department, GOM to take it forward.
